Exciting News from Woodland Elementary! 🐣

Posted Date: 04/13/26 (10:26 AM)

Mrs. Johnson-Bracket’s 1st grade class has officially begun their egg hatching project and we couldn’t be more excited! The eggs arrived last week and are now safely tucked into the incubator. If all goes as planned, they’re expecting chicks to begin hatching in about 21 days, right at the start of May!

Each student has selected and named their own egg, making this a truly personal and engaging learning experience. Throughout the project, students will explore the chicken life cycle, observe development through a process called “candling,” and learn about the importance of maintaining the right temperature and humidity for successful hatching.

This hands-on project also teaches an important lesson: not every egg will hatch, helping students understand the realities of the life cycle.

Once the chicks arrive, they’ll be cared for right in their classroom through the end of the school year as part of our Woodland learning community.
