From Kingsford Middle School, 7th Grade Science Teacher, Mr. Siegler:
These great 7th graders at KMS are learning about how the availability of both abiotic and biotic resources leads to competition within an ecosystem and how that competition affects different populations. Today they did a simulation where each student acted as a different organism and collected fruit loops of different colors that represented different resources (food, water, shelter, etc). Students were moving around, collaborating, and learning all at the same time! The simulation allowed them to see first hand how competition for limited resources leads to some organisms surviving and some not. They all did an amazing job.
