When are Chromebooks distributed?
For the 2023-24 school year, the Chromebooks will be distributed to students in one of their classes. This announcement will be made once the school year is under way. Students & parents will be required to sign the Chromebook Handbook Acknowledgement form before they can receive a device.
Will my student receive a new Chromebook every year?
In grades 5-12: Students will receive new Chromebooks at grades 5 and 9. Students will keep the same Chromebook from grades 5-8 and 9-12. 5th & 6th grade students will return their devices to a designated area each night for charging and will pick them up each morning. 7-12 students will take their devices home each night and ensure that they are fully charged the next day for class.
In grades 2-4: Students will have a device assigned to them that stays on a cart in their classroom. This same device will travel with the student through the end of 4th grade.
When do we turn our Chromebooks in?
Chromebooks will be collected during the last week of school. Chromebooks, cases and chargers will be collected and inspected over the summer and will be distributed again in the fall.
My student received a used Chromebook. Will we be responsible for pre-existing problems?
No, not at all. All used Chromebooks have been inspected, cleaned and repaired prior to distribution. Our tech staff have documented any cosmetic defects that a Chromebook has prior to being distributed and you will not be responsible for those issues. Since the issues were cosmetic in nature, they should not affect Chromebook performance.
Are we responsible for ALL repairs?
No. Only repairs that are necessary because of neglect or abuse, not normal wear and tear. Examples: Keyboard keys coming off of keyboards is considered abuse. They do not fall off from normal use. A battery draining much faster than it should or not holding a charge would be considered normal wear and tear and would be covered by the district. Please review the last few pages of the Chromebook Handbook for your building for more specific information.
What if my student forgets their Chromebook at home?
If a teacher of any given period requires the student to use a Chromebook, the student will receive a pass from the teacher to checkout a loaner device from the media center for that period only. Loaner devices are only issued for an entire day in the case of extended repair timelines such as a device being sent to the manufacturer for warranty repair.
Does the Chromebook really have to stay in the case all the time?
Absolutely. The cases provide protection against most wear and tear to the device and should never be removed unless by a teacher or member of the tech staff. Please note that cases may not be available until the middle of September in the 20-21 school year. In this instance, we will make an exception to this rule.
We don't want our student to have a take-home Chromebook. What are our options?
They will need to checkout a loaner Chromebook from the media center to use for the day and check it back in at the end of the school day. Students will be responsible for the care of the device during this time. Long-term arrangements can be made by contacting your building principal.
Are the Chromebooks filtered at home?
Yes. The devices are filtered no matter where they are used. Only students are permitted to login to the Chromebooks. Students should not share their assigned device with any other student.
What should we do if our chromebook is broken?
Bring it to the school media center and a member of our tech staff will assess the Chromebook and take proper steps for repair. NEVER take the device to an outside company for repair.
