VOLCANOES

A Web Quest by: Lisa Harry

Volcanoes have fascinated people for thousands of years, as much from a religious aspect as a scientific one.  Come with me as we explore volcanoes.  Take a field trip, view volcanoes in action, and learn what a volcanologist actually does on the job, and see if you might like to become a volcanologist in the future.

Complete all seven tasks.  Handwrite your report with the information gathered from the tasks below.

Task 1:       Welcome to the Tramline Volcano Field Trip.  Describe two stops on your tour that you liked best (1-2 sentences will do).

Task 2:       List the four types of volcanoes and give examples.

Task 3:       How many active volcanoes are in existence?  How many lives have been lost in the last 500 years?  What did ancient people attribute volcano eruptions to?

Task 4:       Check out the numerous pictures in the slide show.  How many do you recognize from science class?  Describe two of your favorite pics from the slide show.

Task 5:       Take a hike!  When you get here pick one of the volcanoes of the world and write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) about it.

Task 6:       Would you want to be a volcanologist?  List five reasons why you would or would no want a career in volcanology.

Task 7:       Take a quiz.  List your score.
