The 8th grade Social Studies course begins with a review of key events prior to 1763. Our primary focus will be a more in-depth look at relationships between colonies and Great Britain, the Revolutionary war, the forming of a new government, Manifest Destiny or territorial expansion, the Civil War, the rebuilding of the South, and ending with reconstruction 1877.
Within that framework, students will develop the skills they need to understand and interpret events both past and present. Connecting the past to present events will help prepare students for the twenty-first century.
Course work will include reading from text History Alive American History, interactive student notebooks, cooperative grouping, act-it-outs, and reenactments.
Students will be graded on the following: chapter tests, quizzes, daily assignments, interactive student notebooks, class projects, and participation in cooperative groups.
Some strategies to help students be successful include review of daily reading assignments, use of test review or study guides, completing interactive student notebook, and participation in interactive learning activities.
