Sixth Grade Science is a course which emphasizes relevant learning while encouraging critical thinking skills. The goal is to promote science literacy for all students where students will refine their ability to construct, reflect, and use scientific knowledge. Teachers will employ various strategies including the use of group work, labs, discussion, technology, research, lecture, and textbooks. Daily work may consist of vocabulary, short answer responses, note-taking, worksheets, or other material used to reinforce classroom activities. All students will be required to use the scientific method to complete an invention project in addition to other large topic projects assigned at the teacher’s discretion where students will be given the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned as they study the topics of the changing weather, sound and light, electricity, energy, forces and motion, and changes in matter. Students will be assessed using daily work, quizzes, tests, and projects.
