The goal of this class is designed to emphasize enjoyable participation in physical activities that are easily done throughout life. Students should develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to adopt and maintain a physically active lifestyle. Both competitive and noncompetitive sports are introduced. Examples of sports and activities covered are: Soccer, Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Speedball, Table Tennis Bowling, Team building games, Jump Rope, Juggling and Softball and Physical Fitness.
All activities are taught through explanation, demonstration, skill development and participation. At then end of a unit a written or skill test may be given for evaluation.
Students will be required to change their clothing daily into shorts and a “T” shirt so that personal hygiene is reinforced with staying clean. If a child does not dress out for class he/she will earn a zero for that day and will have to walk around the gym for the hour so that they get some exercise. When a student receives five zeroes for not dress out for class he/she will fail the class.
If there is work to do outside of the class it is the students’ responsibility to finish it at home and turn it in the following day. Should a student be ill and not in school the day an assignment or test is due, they are given one day for each day missed to make up their assignment.
Students are graded on their participation, written work and skill tests. Each week participation points are earned.
By the end of this class students should have a general understanding of physical fitness, team sports and be able to participate in both at a basic level.
