Math 7

This is a Pre-Algebra based class designed to prepare students for success in future courses and a review of basic math concepts.  There is a strong introduction and development of many topics covered in Algebra such as integers, equations, patterns and functions, ratios, and geometry.

The concepts are presented through lecturing, modeling, guided practice, and group discovery.  Assignments are given most days and are often finished in class.  Various projects such as poster creation explaining a math concept and model making may be assigned.

The textbook Addison-Wesley’s Foundations of Algebra and Geometry: an Integrated Approach and the Saxon series are used by the teacher and students.  Students are expected to keep a notebook of their assigned work as this will be graded at different times.  Students should also have pencils, a compass, protractor, and ruler.  Optional materials would be graph paper and a calculator (TI 30Xa).

Grades are determined by Chapter tests, section quizzes, notebooks, participation, and projects.  Listening, finishing assigned work, class participations, and reviewing facts and concepts with friends or parents are helpful strategies for success in this class.
