Eighth grade computers is a 12-week class intended to prepare students for Introduction to Microcomputers, a required high school class. Over the course of twelve weeks, students will learn to use three software packages: Microsoft Word, Photoshop Elements, and iMovie, on a Macintosh computer. Specifically, students will learn basic computer terminology, file management techniques, document processing, graphics, animation, as well as daily drilling on keyboarding speed and accuracy. Emphasis is placed on using technology as a tool to solve problems and enhance learning.
Eighth grade computers is a hands-on learning class; students learn by doing. The instructor will guide the students on the various skills step by step using a screen projector. Once a series of skills have been taught, students will receive assignments that reinforce these skills and test the student. Grades are based entirely on the hands on assignments; there is no homework, no tests, and no books. In order to be successful, students need to pay attention, stay on task, and ask questions when they don’t understand.
