It is a giant leap from elementary music class to Middle School Chorus! This is the student’s first opportunity to participate in a chorus class on a daily basis. In addition to providing consistent vocal training, the daily instruction gives teachers the time to introduce choral reading skills, part singing, blend, music history, musical styles and literature.
Getting the students to discover their own vocal potential and to experience the joy of singing, while being a part of a disciplined ensemble, are valuable aspects of Middle School Chorus.
Our ultimate goal is to cultivate enthusiasm for the pursuit of continued music education. The performance opportunities offered at the Middle School level provide a bridge to the learning experiences they will encounter in high school. They learn performance skills by involvement in two public concerts a year and the chorus festival in which their performance is critiqued by three chorus instructors. In addition, the 8th grade chorus does a Costume Show for Woodland Elementary in the fall of the year. Extra-curricular opportunities include auditioned solos or small ensembles for the concerts. Another annual event in which any music student may participate is the Solo and Ensemble Festival, which prepares them for upper level District and State Festivals.
