Career 8 is a 12 week related arts course and is offered to all 8th grade students. This class will provide students with the necessary goal setting techniques, academic, technical, and work behavior knowledge and skills that will enhance life long learning. Career 8 is also designed to assist students explore their interests, goals, values, aptitudes and abilities. Students will be expected to make meaningful connections between areas of actual career opportunities that are available in our current global economy. Students will engage in a process that will provide opportunities to fully identify, assess, and prepare them for their personal future career goals.
Student learning will result from self assessments (IDEAS and other pathway and career testings) guest speakers, completion of class projects and assignments, EDP- four year educational development plan, transition units, and a field trip experiences. Emphasis will be placed on the six Michigan Career Pathways including: Health Sciences, Human Services, Engineering and Technology, Arts and Communication, Business Management and the Natural Sciences. Textbook references, surveys, technology and hands-on classroom activities will be utilized. Student evaluation will be based on the above criteria. Upon completion of this course students will have a greater insight and understanding regarding their chosen pathway. Having such knowledge will prepare them for their high school and post high school opportunities.
