~ Memory Book ~

As an eighth grader at Kingsford Middle School, you will be writing a “memory book.” It will consist of six chapters. These will be made up of your memories and thoughts from your life.  The final project will be due just before Christmas break, but you must begin now in order to complete it on time with minimum stress.

The final project will be typed and presented in a three-ring binder or scrapbook. The size of this will depend on how much material you include in your book.  You will include pictures, artwork, schoolwork, and other materials to supplement and enhance your memory book.  Plastic “page savers” or photo albums with clear plastic sheets are required to preserve your chapters. See me with any concerns about your binder or pages.

Below you will see the topics for each chapter. Within each topic, you have choices about what to focus on. The topics should provide some flexibility and allow you to find memories and stories to share.

The chapters of your memory book will include the following chapters:

Chapter 1: “The Early Years” (Tell about your family and earliest memories: people, places, events, etc…all those things that you did when you were little that people tell you about.)

Chapter 2: “School Bells” (Your early years in preschool or kindergarten through second grade… learning to read, special school programs, special teachers and special friends.)

Chapter 3: “More School Bells” (Grades three, four and five…school work gets a bit harder --- multiplication tables, science experiments, reports.)

Chapter 4: “Middle School” (Getting accustomed to “big kids” school: teachers, friends, activities, successes, challenges.)

Chapter 5: “My Life” (Tell about your hobbies, favorite activities, your neighborhood, a vacation, a trip you would like to take in the future, or anything else you want to include.)

Chapter 6: “At last, I’ll be in High School” (Hopes, wishes, fears, etc. related to your upcoming high school career.)

Additional Requirements:  “I Am” poem and a letter written to you from someone in your immediate family

Your chapters will be written on the following schedule:

Chapter 1: Friday, Oct. 3                            Chapter 4: Friday, Nov. 14

Chapter 2: Friday, Oct. 17                         Chapter 5: Monday, Dec. 1

Chapter 3: Friday, Oct. 31                         Chapter 6: Friday, Dec. 12

When you receive your graded chapters you must make a corrected copy and include both in your Memory Book.

** Books will be turned in NO LATER than January 12 **

** Please remember that the focus of this project is on the writing process. **
