There are four STRANDS and 91 BENCHMARKS in the Michigan Merit Curriculum for English Language Arts.

This curriculum is mandated by the State of Michigan for all Michigan students.

In the column on the right, the Content Expectations, Strands, and Benchmarks consistent with the week’s lessons in English are listed.

 

 

Each English class throughout the year will begin with 15 minutes of Silent Sustained Reading. 

This program and its value are explained fully in

Building Student Literacy Through Silent Sustained Reading by Steve Gardiner.
