COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course, students will learn a general introduction to computers including the history of computers, hardware, software, binary numbers, the Windows operating system and four of the most commonly used computer software applications:  word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases (Access) and presentation software (PowerPoint).  Additional topics include integration, Microsoft networking basics, file management, Internet and E-mail use, digital cameras, scanners, desktop publishing and keyboarding practice.    It is required for graduation and for the state of Michigan to fulfill the ‘Online Course’ requirement.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1.      To teach students the basics of the Office Suite including:

·         Word - word processing application

·         Excel - spreadsheet application

·         Access - database application

·         PowerPoint - presentation application

·         Publisher - page layout application  (If time allows)

2.      To give students the tools to be more productive in their remaining years of high school.

3.      To fulfill the graduation and Michigan online course requirement for students.

 

GRADING:

Grading Scale:  The class will be run on the school (straight) grading scale (see handbook).

            Drops (Exercises & Activities):                                 60 (20 Per Chapter)

            Computer Responsibilty Points (CRPs):                   100  (Responsible Use of Computer, Classtime & Internet, Online Participation, etc)

Semester grades are based on the following:

2/5 First marking period grade

2/5 Second marking period grade

1/5 Semester final exam
