Computer Lab Rules & Procedures
![]()
¶ KHS RULES - All rules of the student handbook
will be followed including no hats/jackets/bags in class.
¶ DAILY ROUTINE – STUDENTS WILL FOLLOW AN ORDERLY
ROUTINE
o
Students
will be seated at their own computer when the bell rings with all
materials ready to learn. Failure to do
this results in tardiness (Note: three tardies result
in Saturday school/more than five minutes is a Late Arrival/A).
o
Students
MUST come to class BEFORE seeing the nurse, office, etc.
o
Computers
should be inspected (& occasionally cleaned as directed) when first
arriving each day, report any markings or problems to the teacher or you may
receive the blame.
o
Students
will remain at their computer until the next bell rings. Absolutely no standing at the door (end of
row/behind chairs) before the bell rings.
o
No
seat changes without teacher permission.
o
When
leaving, log out, put books & materials away, push in chair and throw away
all stray papers.
o
Never
remove books, CD ROMS or equipment from the lab!
o
Locker
& Restroom passes will be used in emergency only. You may not leave the classroom at any
time without your (misuse results in removal) agenda book (Note: one pg
per marking period).
o
Don’t forget to save your work every few
minutes while in computer class!
o
Make
up tests will be given with excused absences only and ONLY WITHIN ONE WEEK!!!
¶ BEHAVIOR – STUDENTS WILL BE RESPECTFUL TO
EQUIPMENT AND PEOPLE
o
Please
treat the teacher, equipment and all classmates with respect. This includes no food, beverages or gum in
the classroom, no writing in or damaging books and no obscene language.
o
No
talking while information is being taught.
Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
o Please do not call on the teacher while she is taking attendance. Raise your hand and wait until attendance is over.
o Please do not call on the teacher while she is working with another student. Raise your hand and wait until she is finished with the student.
o
The
lab is sacred ground! There will be
absolutely no questionable behavior allowed.
The teacher reserves the right to evict from lab anyone who she feels is
“out of line”. Computers are very
expensive, treat them with care and
consideration. The replacement costs are
more than you want to pay! Report any
problems with computer, printers, etc. to the teacher. Failure to do so could suggest responsibility
on your part.
o
NO Installs or Downloads!!! This includes
Instant Messenger Programs, Games & CD Players!
o
Be
busy at all times. No work means no Internet privileges!
o
Students
must work to be independent learners.
This includes being responsible for obtaining and completing missed
work. The Lesson Plans online are
continually updated and MUST be used to get assignments when absent.
¶ CHEATING – STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
SUBMITTING THEIR OWN WORK
o
Any
cheating results in an automatic zero for that project,
quiz or test for both offenders.
Using someone else’s storage device or being logged in as another use
constitutes cheating therefore never log in under another name or borrow a
storage device (disk or other) from someone to save your assignments. Never tell another student your password, you may be blamed for cheating.
o
Dismissal
from class results in a zero on all assignments, quizzes or tests for that day
¶ CLASS WORK -
o There are Projects (most important), Drops, Checks and Chapter Checklists.
o Projects are usually printed and turned in (unless specified on direction sheet).
o Drops are saved to the shared drive.
o Checks are looked at by the teacher on the machine (on demand only).
o Journal entries are done on occasion when assigned by the teacher (weekly). You can also do them anytime on information related to classwork. They are graded on quantity (a word count is done). The Internet is often used (with guidance).
o
Turn all printed Projects in at the back of room
near the printer in labeled baskets on time.
o Students will be graded on their typing skills. Students must show improvement each marking period in a standard typing skill test at 100 words. A 10 point assignment grade is achieved when students pass this standard.
o It is a good idea to keep a list of drops in your agenda book and check them off as you drop them to the shared drive. Projects can also be tracked this way. It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of projects, missing classwork, drops, etc. Not dropping correctly will result in poor grades. Drops are identified with an originating label and can be tracked back to the creator/user of the file.
o You must read book chapters, activities and projects CAREFULLY!!! Tests are a large part of your grade and will rely heavily on the amount you have read and done in this class.
¶ INTERNET – STUDENTS WILL USE THE INTERNET FOR
EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY
o The Internet and E-mail is to be used ONLY during designated times by the teacher and ONLY on acceptable sites (see web page for links). If ALL work is completed and handed in, the Internet and E-mail may be used WITH THE TEACHER’S PERMISSION ONLY (You must ask and use the ‘done with work’ card!). Any misuse of the Internet will be directed to lawful authorities and prosecuted according to the law and/or the school’s Internet use agreement. The Internet is a privilege and can be taken away from students for their entire high school career at Kingsford High School.
o GAMES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE – ONLY WEBSITES LISTED ON THE ‘ACCEPTABLE WEB SITE’ PAGE ARE NOW ALLOWED IN COMPUTER CLASSES (Internet traffic problems).
¶ COMPUTER BACKGROUNDS – BACKGROUND CHANGES ARE TREATED LIKE
INTERNET USE
o The Background of your computer desktop will be changed in class together once in the first couple of weeks. You may choose a SCHOOL APPROPRIATE background picture when told to do so but you may NOT CHANGE BACKGROUNDS CONTINUALLY IN CLASS. The ONLY acceptable time to change backgrounds on your computer from that point forward will be during designated ‘Internet use’ time by you when all work is completed and a ‘finished with work’ card is obtained.
o ONLY ONE BACKGROUND PICTURE IS ALLOWED ON YOUR HOME DRIVE. This means that when choosing a new background, you MUST remove the old background picture from your home drive before adding a new picture for your background. This will eliminate using valuable fileserver space for unnecessary background pictures.
¶ HELPFUL HINTS -
The Insert key switches from Typeover to Insert key mode.
If a computer has froze, Ctrl+Alt+Del should return a box which can help. Try End Task on any program not responding. Ctrl+Alt+Del again should restart the computer. If nothing happens with Ctrl+Alt+Del, turn the power off and back on (press and hold).
The Laser Printer in the back of the room is where all assignments will be printed. Paper is located under the printer in the cupboards and can be reloaded by you (see printer info sheet).
VOLUME control is located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
Failure to follow the above rules may
result in detention, Saturday School and parent contact.
Welcome to my class. Enjoy computer class and have a great year!
