Orders are now being taken for the 2013 KHS Yearbooks. Yearbooks can be ordered online at www.jostensyearbooks.com or in the KHS Principal's Office.
The price is $60 at distribution. The cost will be $50 if you order before May 14 saving you $10. The 2013 yearbook will be delivered and distributed beginning August 19.

2013 KHS Scholarship Banquet
Breitung Township Schools and Kingsford High School would like to thank and congratulate parents and students who were recognized during the 2013 Scholarship Banquet held in the Kingsford Middle School gym on Monday, May 13.

March Hometown Athletes of the Month
Congratulations go out to seniors Andrea Roell and Caleb Harrington for being named Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Month for March.
Andrea helped the lady Flivver Basketball team to a 2nd place GNC finish and helped the girls to District and Regional titles. She averaged 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She was honored as a All-GNC First Team player as well as All-UP Second Team. Andrea is also in the Top 10 Percent of her class.
Caleb was the leader of the Boys Basketball team this year. He completed his senior year with an 18.8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals per game average. He was recognized on the All-GNC First Team, All-UP First Team, and was a special mention to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan all-class Best-of-the-Best Team.
Congratulations Andrea and Caleb and good luck in your post-high school endeavors!
March Artist of the Month
Congratulations go out to KHS junior Pavel Hammar for being chosen as the March Artist of the Month. Pavel's piece, titled Shattered, is a piece created using white charcoal.
2013 Junior Prom King and Queen
Congratulations go out to Emma Voss and Jake Allen for being crowned Kingsford High School's 2013 Junior Prom King and Queen.

Kingsford vs Marquette in SOS Competition
Kingsford High School and Marquette High School are in a friendly weight-loss competition that began on April 15 and goes for 6 weeks. The participants are encouraged to cut sugar out of their diet for 6 weeks. Watch the video for more information.

Junior College Visit
Kingsford High school juniors and advisors recently attended a school sponsored college visit trip. Twenty seven students and three adult school advisors visited five universities in Michigan. The trip was sponsored by the Kingsford High School Academic Booster Club. The students visited Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Lansing Community College, Central Michigan University and Albion College.
The purpose of the trip was provide exposure to the students a variety of post secondary schools as the students begin to make choices on where they will further their education. The students had an opportunity to tour each campus, speak with present students, meet with academic and financial officers from each school. Comments from both students and staff upon their return was that the trip was extremely beneficial to them as they prepare for their futures.
A big thank you goes out to the Kingsford High School Academic Booster Club for making this possible. MSU STARR Charitable
Foundation Scholarship Recipient
Congratulations go out to to senior Heidi Stenvig for being named the winner of the Michigan State University STARR Charitable Foundation Scholarship.
This scholarship will pay for eight semesters at Michigan State University and it is a very special honor to have Heidi be named this year's recipient.
2013 Junior Prom Court
Congratulations go out to all of those juniors who were selected to be on prom court for the 2013 Junior Prom.
The junior prom will be held on Saturday, April 20.

2012-13 National Honor Society Induction
Congratulations go out to all of the new inductees of the National Honor Society Chapter #1507 at Kingsford High School. The National Honor Society held their annual induction ceremony on Monday, March 25 in the high School auditorium.
Special thanks go out to all of the parents, faculty, family, and friends who attended this ceremony.
2012-13 Winter Sports Honors
Kingsford High School would like to congratulate those Flivver athletes who garnered recognition from coaches and media for their contribution to their respective athletic team for the winter season.
These athletes helped their teams achieve excellence by lending their abilities and leadership. Special thanks go out to coaches and fellow teammates for whom the success of these mentioned athletes could not have been made possible.

2013 Spanish Day
Kingsford High School students in Spanish II, III, and IV travelled to Marquette on Tuesday, March 19 for NMU's Spanish Day. NMU creates a Spanish-speaking country called Españolandía to which students travel for the day.

Students in Mrs. Sutton's senior English and AP Literature classes celebrated the Great Gatsby and the roaring '20s ("23 skidoo") by dressing up and giving presentations on the legendary era.

Academic Spirit Week
Kingsford High School and the Academic Booster Club would like to thank the students and faculty for their participation in the first Academic Spirit Week held during the week of February 25. Students participated in daily activities that involved both body and mind.
The students finished the week with a pep-rally that pitted the faculty vs the students in many fun activities. Each activity engaged both the mental and physical abilities of staff and students.

February Artist of the Month
Congratulations go out to KHS junior Kate Lamy for being chosen as the February Artist of the Month. Kate's piece, titled Changing Colors, is a piece created using acrylic paint and Plaster of Paris.

Breitung Township Schools and Kingsford High School would like to congratulate Mrs. Jacqueline Leiker for being selected as the runner-up for the MACUL Oustanding Technology Teacher of the Year Award for grades Pre-K thru 12.
Mrs. Leiker will receive her award during the opening keynote at the MACUL 2013 Conference in Detroit on March 20. There will be 13 of her colleagues from Breitung Township Schools along with an estimated 5,000 teachers from across the state attending this conference.
She was nominated for this award be technology director Jean Constantini because of her work with providing professional development to other teachers in our district in how to use technology in the classroom to engage students. After attending the MACUL 2012 conference, Mrs. Leiker started "20 Minute PD for Busy Teachers" and continues to run mini sessions after school to show teachers how to use various web applications with their students.

Khs Seniors Named Nominees for Outstanding Graduate Scholarship
KHS is proud to announce that ten seniors from Kingsford High School have been nominated for The Detroit News Outstanding High School Graduate Scholarship.
This is a program that identifies, recognizes, and honors the top seniors from all of Michigan’s public and non-public high schools in eleven different categories.
Selected students will be honored as part of the 28th annual Detroit News Outstanding High School Graduate program. The top two students in each category will be featured in stories and photographs in The Detroit News this spring and will be honored at an awards dinner. Four students in each category will be selected as runners-up, and their names will be published in The News. All nominated students will receive certificates.
The KHS students nominated are Andrea Roell, World Studies Education; Josh Johnson, Mathematics Education; Robyn To, Language Arts Education; Carlee Benzie, Athletics; Kyle McGillviray, Vocational-Technical Education; Devin Wickman, Performing Arts Education; Samantha Fleming, Health Education; Sean Ryan, Science Education; Laurin LaBonte, Visual Arts Education; and Brooke Sanford, Special Distinction.
KHS is very proud of these outstanding students.

UP Swimming Champion
Congratulations go out to senior Josh Johnson for completing an undefeated season and being crowned 2013 UP Champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle at the 2013 UP Swimming Championships on Saturday, February 16 at Marquette High School. This is Josh's 3rd championship in a row in the 100 freestyle.

KHS Cheerleaders Regional Bound
Congratulations go out to senior Congratulations go out to the Flivver girls cheer team for qualifying for the Division 3 Rockford on Saturday, February 23. The girls qualified by placing second at the district competition in Houghton Lake on Saturday, February 16. The top four teams from the regional competition will qualify for the MHSAA State Finals.

2013 Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Principal’s Award Nominee
Congratulations go out to senior Kyle McGillviray for being nominated as Kingsford High School’s 2013 Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Principal’s Award recipient. This award supports the importance of a well-rounded education and gives schools the opportunity to recognize leadership, academic performance, and community service. Kyle now has the opportunity to receive a $2000, $5000, $8,500, or $12,000 scholarship.
Kyle has been active in many extra-curricular activities in high school. He is in the top 10% of this high school class and has been active in the Academic Booster Club as well as National Honor Society. Kyle has been a member of the KHS football team for 4 years, and has also won a varsity letter is wrestling. He has over 400 community volunteer hours and is eligible for the state of Michigan Service Award.
KHS principal Lyle Smithson states, “We are extremely proud at Kingsford High School to nominate Kyle as our 2013 Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship program recipient. Kyle is a young man who has committed himself to excellence in the classroom, athletic arena and community volunteerism. Kyle is a true positive role model to all other students.”

Detroit Athletic Club High School Athlete of the Year Nominee
Congratulations go out to senior Sean Ryan for being been named Kingsford High School’s nominee for the Detroit Athletic Club 2013 Michigan High School Athlete of the year. The DAC's winning tradition continues with its support of the National Athletic Awards and the creation of the Michigan High School Athlete of the Year award. This annual award started in 1996 and honors both athletic and academic achievement.
KHS principal Lyle Smithson states, “We are extremely proud at Kingsford High School to recognize Sean as our Detroit Athletic Club High School Athlete of the year. Sean is a multiple sport athlete who has excelled both in the classroom and in the athletic arena. His commitment to all endeavors that he pursues has allowed him to achieve the success that he has.”

December Hometown Athletes of the Month
Congratulations go out to seniors Aidan Wienke and Maria Pirkola for being named Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Month for December.
Aidan has been an instrumental part of the Boys Basketball team this year. He has helped his team get out to a 7-3 record and be ranked as one of the top 5 teams in class ABC. Aidan is one of the top scorers and rebounders on the Flivver team.
Maria has been the top point scorer for the Flivver Girl's Swim team this season. She has been near perfect in the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley this season as well as helping out on the top relay team.
