Lyle Smithson
Principal

Mr. Smithson is married to his wife Debbie (a teacher) and has four sons: Marcus, Michael, Brett, and Bryce. He was born in Denver, Colorado and considers himself an avid Green Bay Packer and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He enjoys camping and spending quality time with his family.

Doug Roberts
Assistant-Principal

Mr. Roberts is married to his wife Tracy and has four children: Tyler, Trevor, Renee, and Grace. Outside of being at school, he enjoys sports, hunting, and spending time with his family. Mr. Roberts is a Kingsford Alumnus from the Class of 1989.

Alan Unger Athletic Director

Mr. Unger is married to wife Lori and has two children: Lindsay (CMU) and Kristi (MSU) who are both KHS graduates. He and his wife Lori are also proud grandparents to Anthony and Claire. Mr. Unger is a Kingsford Alumnus from the Class of 1980. His wife Lori ('81) and his daughters Lindsay ('07) and Kristi ('10) are also all KHS Alums. Outside of school, he enjoys golfing, boating, hunting, biking, going to camp, and spending time with his family. Mr. Unger coached wrestling for 16 years and was a 3-time UP Champion for the Flivver Wrestling team.

    Michigan High School Athletic Association(MHSAA) Representative Council Member
  • 2004-Present: Athletic Director Kingsford High School/BTS and Community Schools Enrichment Director
  • 1999-2004: Taught Industrial arts, Auto-Cad, Blueprint reading, Machine Tool at BTS and DIISD
  • 1985-1999: Employed as Machinist/Toolmaker/Pattern-maker/CNC Programmer

  • Currently: Ongoing Education, pursuing Masters in Educational Administration (NMU)
