Madison KoskiMadison Koski was named the Kingsford High School Volunteer of the Year in the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

The honor was granted as part of the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide youth volunteer recognition program sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

By selecting Madison as its top youth volunteer, Kingsford High School has advanced her application for state-level judging in the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Prudential will announce Michiganís top youth Volunteers of the Year in February 2018.

Madison has logged over 400 hours of community service during her high school career. She has spent a part of each summer participating in a mission trip to North Dakota. "There are many reasons this trip is important," stated Madison Koski, "but I believe one of the biggest reasons is that there are so many people in the world who need help. I honestly believe that much of the world just chooses to ignore or not acknowledge the needs of others, and I do not want to be one of those people. This is what inspired me to do this trip for the past four years, and I will continue to do it for as long as possible."

Madison is a member of the top 10% of her graduating class and is a member of the National Honor Society. She participates in soccer and basketball and is a member of Key Club.

After graduation Madison plans to attend either Northern Michigan University or Michigan State University to study a medical related field.

"Madison is a young lady who truly exemplifies the meaning of Spirit of Community," stated KHS Principal, Lyle Smithson. "She has continually given back to her community and society in general. She has volunteered to go on a Mission Trip the past 4 summers. She has given of herself and her time to enhance the quality of life for others. Madison indicated that by going on the Mission Trips it has allowed her to truly appreciate the important things in life. Kingsford High School is truly honored to recognize Madison Koski as our 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Award nominee. She is truly someone who has given back to society to make a positive difference in the lives of others."

Kingsford High School also recognized Brenden Blazier and Justin Lanthier for their exemplary volunteer service with Prudential Spirit of Community Certificates of Merit.

As a local honoree, Madison Koski is now in the running to be named one of two Prudential Spirit of Community State Honorees for Michigan. State Honorees receive a $1,000 award and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C., for several days of special recognition events.
