Microcomputer Applications

Pre-requisite: Typing/Keyboarding skills of Minimum 25 wpm
Mrs. Leiker's microcomputer classes work on IBM Compatible computers.  Students will learn the three most commonly used computer software applications:  word processing, database, and spreadsheet.  Students will work with Microsoft Works - an integrated software program which includes each of the three tools.  The Internet will be used in this class for educational projects.  Additional topics include keyboard/typing improvement, job applications, database reports, mail merge, charting and an introduction to both the Windows Operating System and Novell Networking basics.  The students also learn some basic computer history, hardward and software information.  Recommended fot the college, business, and general education student.  Computers used:  I-Paq.

Microsoft Office

Pre-requisite: Introduction to WordPerfect 8.0
Students will work with the acclaimed program Microsoft Office 2000 - the most popular application package in the world. Office contains five applications: Word (word processor), Excel (spreadsheet), Power Point (presentation graphics package), Access (database), and Mail (electronic mail). The program makes use of the highly touted Object Linking and Embedding or OLE. The focus in this class will be on learning all the applications in the package. Students will create a professional presentation for themselves which can be used for college representatives or employment opportunities which includes graphics, sound and even video!  The use of the OLE environment will be stressed in all of the applications. The Internet will be used in this class for educational projects.  An excellent class for the college bound and business students alike and the perfect opportunity for those interested in furthering their computer knowledge beyond WordPerfect class.  Students taking this class after fulfilling the pre-requisites will graduate from high school virtually experts on all the major software programs used in today's society and at today's colleges! Computers used: I-Paq.

Visual Basic

Pre-requisite: Algebra I (B or better) and Microcomputer Applications OR Instructor Approval
Computers are an increasingly important part of our world.  In business, science and art, a working knowledge of computers is vital in today's society.  This class is an excellent step to higher level computer programming.  Learn to work with controls and Active X controls to manipulate the Mouse, Dialog Boxes and Windows.  Students will create user interfaces and design, save and run their own original programs!  Students will also learn to build the programs into executable files which can be run on any compatible computer.  Pointers, interactive graphics, multi-dimensional arrays, animation techniques, loops, timers, error handlers, decision structures, modules and procedures, MDI forms, database management and the designing of dynamic HTML documents will also be covered.  The Internet will be used in this class for educational projects.  This class is a must have for those interested in computer programming, engineering and other "advanced" computer careers. Computers used: I-Paq.
