Rules & Regulations

Cheering Home Page

General Rules & Procedures:

  • All rules of the Kingsford Athletic Handbook will be followed.

  • Absolutely no drinking or smoking will be tolerated. You will be punished in accordance with the Kingsford Athletic Handbook and at the coach’s discretion.

  • “Benching” will consist of suiting up and sitting during the game with the coach while others are cheering.

  • Best grades and behavior are expected in classes. The policy is school first, cheerleading second (this includes attendance!).

  • You should keep a binder or folder with all handout material in it (calendars, chant lists, etc.). It is YOUR responsibility to know/keep these things.

  • You must check the cheer website weekly for announcements, due dates, etc.

  • Practice:

  • You should arrive to practice on time with your hair up (not intrusive) and no jewelry. Athletic apparel and shoes should be worn. If you use your cheerleading competition shoes for practice you should not where them to and from practice.

  •  No gum or candy during practice.

  • Prompt attendance at practice is a must. Be at practice early so you are ready to practice at the announced time. If you are late, you may be benched for that week’s game.

  • Missing practices without prior approval will not be tolerated. Unexcused absences from practices may mean being benched at the next game. Excused absences will be accepted only with signed notes/approval and should be prearranged with the coach. Work and/or babysitting and Driver’s Ed. are not considered an excused absence from practice. Please arrange those hours to not interfere with practice.

  • Games:

  • Prompt attendance at games is a must. Be at games a minimum of 30 minutes early prepared to warm up and run through some cheers before the game. If you are late to a game, you may be benched for that game or a portion of that game.

  • Arrive to games with all pieces of uniforms and pom pons.

  • You should see to it that visiting cheerleaders are greeted and informed of cheer times, places, etc., before the start of the game.

  • Missing games without prior approval will not be tolerated. Unexcused absences from games may mean being benched for the next two games. Excused absences will be accepted only with signed notes and should be prearranged with the coach.

  • You must provide your own transportation to and from Kingsford High School for home and away games. Cheerleaders ride the school provided bus to any away games. You must have a parent signed note to ride home separately from the team.

  • Appearance for games and competition:

  • Appearance should be neat and clean. We want to make a first class impression of our high school.

  • Hair should be worn up. If hair touches the shoulders, it is long enough to be worn up. Bangs should be pulled up—not covering your face—we want to see your beautiful smile.

  • Uniforms should be clean and neatly pressed for all games and must be turned in with dry cleaning slips attached at the end of the season.

  • You shouldn’t have or be wearing anything which detracts from the uniformity of the team. This includes excessive makeup, dark nail polish, tattoos (temporary or otherwise), intrusive hair colors, hickeys or any other item the coach considers to be detracting.

  • No gum or candy.

  • No jewelry - THIS INCLUDES BELLY BUTTON AND NOSE RINGS! Failure to conform to this rule will mean being benched until the jewelry is removed.

  • Conduct:

  • Conduct at practice and games is expected to be perfect.

  • No flaunting over boyfriends or friends while in uniform or at practice.

  • You must listen to and respect your coach and other team mates. The “Nod and Know” policy will be established and used at all practices, games and competitions.

  • No vulgar language will be tolerated while in uniform or at practice.

  • No fighting amongst teammates- report any problems to the coach.

  • Everybody must try their best for the team. A requirement of the team is the desire to succeed. You may have to sacrifice your own personal “whims” for the good of the team.

  • Do not argue with the coach. Your coach is the authority at games and practices. All final decisions rest with her. This includes all coaches in the program.

  • No mocking other cheerleaders.

  • No stunting is allowed without the coach’s permission.

  • You want to look your best - no talking or messing around during game time - pay close attention to the game at hand and look your best - standing in stance.

  • Best behavior at all times is expected - you are to be a role model in and out of uniform. Good sportsmanship at games must be followed - no yelling at the Referee, etc. - No cheers which are degrading.

  • Bus behavior is expected to be impeccable. No flaunting, yelling or turning around on the bus. You should be sitting in your own seat talking only to the person sitting with you. No perfumes, hair sprays or other scented items are to be used on bus trips with players. Remember you are there to cheer—not to entertain or distract players on the bus trip.

  • Consequences:

  • Failure to conform to the above written rules could mean being benching for one or several games or competitions and/or removal from the team entirely at the coach’s discretion.
