BIOLOGY
- 1 Credit - 10-11-12 - (strongly
recommended for 10th graders)
General Biology incorporates two principle objectives: to prepare college bound students for science encounters and to teach the responsibilities of each individual as an integral part of a life pattern. The course includes the science of life, introductory chemistry, the relationship of living things, the invertebrates, vertebrate systems, heredity and ecology. Emphasis is on the human and contributions individuals can make. Issues of morality, ecology, and biotechnology in everyday encounters are a few examples of this approach.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
In general biology, our goal is to awaken in students an awareness of the world in which we live, our role in the environment, and an understanding of ourselves as living things. More importantly, students develop an understanding of other living things that share our habitat, and their significance in our lives. Further, students will develop study skills which will serve them well in other fields of study, and learn to use resources--technological and otherwise--which will help them to advance their knowledge as they grow and learn as thinking members of society.
