This rocket is a half scale Nike Apache two stage rocket.  It is half the size of the two Nike Apache rockets that flew from Copper Harbor in January of 1971.  It will be flown in the fall of 2010 or the spring of 2011 to mark the 40th anniversary of Rockets being flown to outer space in Michigan.  This happened at the Keweenaw Missile Range near Copper Harbor.  More information on the Keweenaw Missile Range and the launches can be found here

http://www.gt.org/keweenaw-rocket-base/

This is a half scale Nike Apache rocket.  This will be painted to look like the two stage rockets that flew in Copper Harbor to outer space in 1971.  We are in the process of building the rocket to mark th 40 anniversary of the launch. Our students took part in the placing of the maker there in 2000. The marker can be seen  at

http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2V7K

The rocket is 8 inches in diameter in the booster, 3 inches in diameter in the second stage.  The upper payload section of the rocket is 4.5 inches in diameter. The combined height of the rocket is 14 feet.

This rocket will be painted to look just like the two launched in Copper Harbor and will fly in the Fall or 2010 or Spring of 2011 to mark the 40th anniversary of Michigan sending a rocket to space.

LDRS

The next LDRS, LDRS 29, will be hosted by the Rocketry Organization of California (ROC) at Lucerne Dry Lake, in Lucerne Valley, California, from June 10-15, 2010.

ROC is one of the largest and most active Tripoli Prefectures, and is no stranger to hosting large launch events. ROC's twice-yearly 3-day ROCstock events are among the largest regional launch events held in the United States, and LDRS 29 marks the third time that ROC has been selected to host LDRS. (ROC hosted LDRS 20 at Lucerne Dry Lake in 2001, and hosted LDRS 26 at Jean Dry Lake, in Nevada in 2007.)
