Density of Liquids Demonstration
Items needed
clear plastic cup
water
coffeemate
clear corn syrup
food coloring
lamp oil
spoon
Place a scoop or tow of coffee mate in the cup. fill 1/3 full with water. Stir until coffeemate is dissolved. Prior to the start of class add food coloring to the syrup. shake and stir up until the food coloring is dissolved. Pour in the corn syrup. It will go to the bottom as it is most dense. Add the lamp oil and it will float on the top as it is least dense. It you place it on top of the overhead, the light from the overhead will make the colors more visible to the class. If you get blue lamp oil and use red food coloring in the syrup, You will have a red, white and blue cup.
