Iron in Cereal

Items needed

cow magnet or computer magnet (flinn scientific is a good source)

2 liter soda bottle

water

cereal with iron in it like Product 19

1. Near the top of the contain tape the magnet in place

2. Grind up the cereal and place in the bottle

3. Add water

4. Put cap on the bottle

5. Shake the bottle up for a while. The iron in the cereal will be attracted to the magnet

Note iron filings are placed in cereal. If you look close at the Product 19 you will see black specs in the cereal. Those specs are iron filings. They react with acid in the stop and become iron ions that the body can use

Cow magnets are in the shape of a pill. Farmers have their cows swallow them. Cows will often eat barb wire ,nails and such things as they eat the grass. The magnet atracts the iron to it and stops it from going through the cows digestive system. The iron form the magnet and the things attracted to it is digested by the acid in the cow's stomach
