Making a Diffraction Grating
items needed
aluminum pie pan or a shallow containter for water
water
construction paper (black paper does not work)
clear finger nail polish
1. Cuts a piece of construction paper to a size of about 3 x 3 inches
2. Put water into the pan
3. Place the paper into the water
4. Place a amount of the clear finger nail polish on the water. A thin film will appear.
5. Lift the paper out to the water. Make sure the film is on top of the paper
6. Let the paper dry. When placed in light, many different colors will
appear on the sheet.
