Scholarships Updated Weekly: (see scholarships)

TIP Program - Tuition Incentive Program is a program that encourages students to complete high school by providing assistance for the first two years of college.  Qualification: must have (or have had) Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36-consecutive-month.  See the website www.michigan.gov/osg for more information or call 1-844-447-2687 or e-mail at osg@michigan.gov.

Leadership AQDay:  Aquinas College will be hosting their Leadership AQDay program on Dec. 5.  Students will be able to attend their choice of two of five different breakout sessions, and a complimentary lunch and tour of the campus are provided.  The event is open to individuals or groups and there is no cost to attend.  Registration is required, either by web through www.aquinas.edu/undergraduate/leadership_campus.html or by phone number 1-800-678-9593 or 616-632-2900.

2008 MYLF for Students with Disabilities:  The Michigan Youth Leadership Forum will be held on June 14 to 18, 2009 at the Michigan State University.  This program is open to high school juniors and seniors with disabilities who have demonstrated leadership potential in their communities and schools.  There is no charge to attend and the deadline for applying is Dec. 12.  Apply through the counseling office.

LTU Entrepreneurial Program:  Lawrence Technological University will be holding an entrepreneurial program on Nov. 18, Dec. 9, Feb. 19, Mar. 19, and Apr. 16 at 2:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.  The speakers are all Lawrence Tech alumni who have started their own businesses or received patents for inventions or creative ideas.  The lectures are free of charge, but please RSVP so the university will have a head count.  For more information or to RSVP, email ceoclub@itu.edu or visit www.itu.edu/engineering/mechanical/learpresentations.asp.

Aquinas College AQ Days:  Aquinas College will be holding a science, nursing, and math aq day on Nov. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a leadership aq day on Dec. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Each aq day will have multiple sessions and provide visitors the chance to explore the college's arboretum, hear from alumni and current students, have lunch with current students, and meet with faculty from their specific area of interest.  There is no cost to attend either day and registration is required.  Registration can be done online at www.aquinas.edu/undergraduate or by calling 1-800-678-9593 or 616-632-2900.

MTU Electrical and Computer Engineering:  Michigan Technological University invites prospective students to ask about their electrical and computer engineering programs.  Electrical and computer engineering technology are among the most rapidly developing technical fields.

EMU Education First Scholarship Days:  Eastern Michigan University will be holding their Education First program on Nov. 22 and Jan. 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  for high school seniors who have already been admitted to EMU with a 3.3 or higher GPA.  Participants will be able to take a multiple choice test to earn scholarships or upgrade current scholarships by $500-$1,000 per year.  Registration is required and the deadlines are Nov. 17 and Jan. 19, respectively.

M.Y. LEAD - The Michigan Youth Leadership Conference for sophomores for 2009 is now being planned.  This is a three-day leadership program from May 15-17 at Michigan State University.  The maximum number of students Kingsford is allowed to send is two, with a nominal fee of $165 per student.  However, the first student's cost of attendance is free.  If you wish to be nominated, please see Ms. Jayne.  For more information, visit www.mylead.org.

Wisconsin Leadership Seminars - The Wisconsin Leadership Seminars will be holding its annual three-day seminars on June 12-14, 2009.  WILS is a local volunteer organization that identifies outstanding high school sophomores.  A nomination by your guidance counselor is required and he fills out the form.

NWTC Career Days:  Northeast Wisconsin Technical College will be holding "Campus Career Days" on Nov. 19 and Mar. 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Registration is required, and the due dates for Nov. 19 and Mar. 5 are Nov. 14 and Mar. 2, respectively.  For more information, visit http://www.nwtc.edu.

Visit Benedictine University:  Benedictine University will be holding a fall open house program on Oct. 5 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.  In addition, their Science department has an open house on Nov. 15 from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. and  their Business department on Nov. 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Their spring open house will be on Mar. 1 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.  A fifth program, Benedictine University At A Glance, will be held on Aug. 6 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Fridays at Calvin:  Calvin College will be holding visitation programs every Friday of their school year with the sole exceptions of major holidays and their spring and Christmas breaks.  Potential students are also invited to spend the night on campus.  Those interested can register at www.calvin.edu/visit.  The program is also offered on certain Mondays during the school year.                                                                

NMU Presidential Scholars Competition:  High school seniors with an ACT composite score of 24 or higher (or SAT score of 1090 or higher) AND a recomputed cumulative (9th, 10th, and 11th grades) of 3.5 or higher could be eligible for scholarships ranging from $1,000 to full rides.  More information and applications are available at www.nmu.edu/presidentialscholars.

WMU Open House:  Western Michigan University will be holding open house programs on Oct. 17, Nov. 21, and Dec. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  There will be a representatives from all the academic colleges, a variety of university departments, and various student organizations.  Pre-registration is required.

Navy ROTC: The Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) is now open for application.  The NROTC scholorship is an $180,000 scholorship to cover tuition, books, fees, uniforms, and a monthly stipend of $250 for freshmen (this stipend increases with each consecutive year in college).  The student enters the Navy as a commissioned officer in a variety of occupations.  No obligation is incurred on the part of the student applying until their sophomore year in college.  More information can be found at https://www.nrotc.navy.mil.

MSOE Open House:  The Milwaukee School of Engineering will be having open house programs on Oct. 11, Dec. 6, and Apr. 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

U of WI Open House:  The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point will be having open house programs on Oct. 11, Oct. 17, Oct. 30, Oct. 31, Nov. 15, Mar. 27, and Apr. 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Community Service Award:  Students of all grades who have put in considerable community service may be eligible for The Prudential Spirit of Community Award, which includes an award of $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., next May 2-5.  More information and applications are available at www.prudential.com/spirit and www.principals.org/prudential.  When asked for an access key, type the word spirit.

Presidential Classroom:  Students interested in attending a week long seminar on leadership (economic, political, and social issues) on the campus of Georgetown University can be nominated through the Counseling Office.  Visit www.presidentialclassroom.org for more information about the program.  (University of Virginia is offering credit for this seminar as well)

Seniors:  Students interested in the Air Force ROTC must apply by December 1st

Junior Boys and Girls interested in Government/Political Science:  Girls and Boys State is held annually on the Michigan State University Campus in June.  Visit www.boysandgirlsstate.org  for details.  Optional College Credit is available for girls who attend.  Applications can be found at www.michalaux.org (Click on Girls State).  See the Counseling Office for information.

International Student Exchange Program has information regarding travel abroad for interested students.  Call 1800-333-3802 ext 219 with questions.

**Juniors and Seniors on the free/reduced lunch program now qualify for TWO free ACT tests in addition to the MME exam. Also, significant reductions in AP Exam Fees. See the Counseling Office for details!

National Youth Leadership Forums: There are several forums offered during the summer months that the Counseling Office nominates students for if they are interested.  They include Medicine, Law, and Technology.  The forums have been highly recommended by students that have attended in the past, but will cost the student a fair amount of money to attend.  Please visit www.nylf.org for details and see the Counseling Office if you have the means to attend one of these conferences.  They are worth while!  See the Counseling Office to be nominated.

Michigan Tech Summer Programs: Michigan Technical University will again be hosting summer programs for students interested in careers in engineering, science and technology, computers, outdoor and environmental studies, business, and arts and human services, as well as three competitive scholarship programs.
