Spring Concerts
|

|
Kingsford Music Department will be holding their annual
spring concert series. The concert schedule is as follows:
- The Kingsford High School Band Concert will be held
on Monday, April 28th.
- The Kingsford Junior High School Band Concert will
be held on Tuesday, April 29th.
- The Kingsford Chorus Concert (Middle School and High
School) will be held on Thursday, May 8th.
All concerts will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Kingsford
High School Auditorium. Donations will be accepted at the
door.

Hall of Fame Scholarship
Winner
Congratulations to Dan
Sjoquist for being one of the recipients of the 2008 U.P.
Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship. The scholarship is for $500
per year for four years. Dan was one of four students in the
Upper Peninsula to achieve this honor.

2008 National Honor Society Inductees
Congratulations to all of the
2008 National Honor Society inductees. The induction
ceremony took place Tuesday, April 8 in the auditorium.

All-U.P. Basketball Team
Congratulations to Kelsey
Roberts for being selected to play on the All-U.P. Girls
Basketball team. Honorable mentions include Jaime Roberts
and Molly Wiltzius for the Girls Team and Jake Groeneveld
and Jordan Wickman for the Boys Team.

GNC Competitive Cheer Champions
Congratulations go out to the
Varsity Competitive Cheer team for capturing the 2008 GNC
meet in Manistique. The girls compiled 710.110 points in
defeating Gladstone (616.826), Marquette (550.060), and
Escanaba (547.008).

Wrestling Regional Champions
Congratulations
to senior William Flynn (135) and sophomore Andy Carpenter
(171) for being crowned Champions in their weight class at
the Division 3 Region 9 Wrestling Regional in
Standish-Sterling on Saturday, February 23. Both wrestlers
advanced to the State Finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills
to be held on March 6, 7, & 8. The finals will see the top
16 wrestlers in each weight class from Divisions 1-4 square
off for top honors. William and Andy will compete against 15
others in Division 3 with the top 8 wrestlers garnering
medals. Good Luck at the state finals!

Girls Regional Bowling
Congratulations to the girls
bowling team for their 2nd place finish Friday,
February 22 in Muskegon at the Regionals. The girls team
qualifies for the State Finals in Sterling Heights on
Friday, February 29th.
Special
congratulations go out to Ashley Burkman for her 10th place
finish on Saturday, February 23 at the Singles competition.
She qualified for the State Singles Finals in Sterling
Heights on Saturday, March 1st.

Male Athlete of the Year and All-UP Swim
Team
Congratulations to Andy
Lindstrom for being named UP Male Athlete of the Year for
the 2007-08 swim season. Andy finished his second straight
season undefeated and capped his season with individual UP
titles in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Medley as well as the
200 Free and 400 Free relay team titles. Andy was joined by
teammates Derek Barnes, Nathan Winkler, Taylor Sturm, Alec
Thurston, Andrew Mitchell, and Steve Mulka on the All-UP
Swim Team.
Congratulations also go out to Iron Mountain senior Melissa
Harvey for being named to the ALL-UP Girls Team for a fourth
season.

All-UP Ski Team
Congratulations to Jared Ische
for being named to the All-UP ski team. Jared recently
finished 3rd in both Slalom and Giant Slalom at the UP ski
meet. Jared also finished 10th in the slalom at the Division
2 State Ski Meet at Boyne Mountain.

Congratulations to junior
goalie Collin Kuoppala for being named 2007-08 Most Valuable
Player for the Great Lakes Hockey Conference. Collin was
also named to the All-Great Lakes Hockey Conference team
joining freshman teammate Jay Pietila.

Groeneveld for being named to the 2007-08 All-GNC second
team. Special Mention went out to Jordan Wickman and
Honorable Mention went to Chris Siegler.

Division 3 Wrestling Individual Champions
Congratulations to William
Flynn, Andy Carpenter, Chris Carlson, and Brandon Bellmore
for winning their weight class at the Division 3 State
Individual District Tournament in Negaunee on Saturday,
February 16. This is the first year that individuals from
the Upper Peninsula have been involved in the State
individual tournament.

Scholar-Athlete Award
Congratulations go out to
Derek Harrington for being named a Scholar-Athlete award
winner for 2007-08! Derek was one of only 32 winners
out of almost 2,000 entrants. Derek will be
honored at a special ceremony at halftime of the Class C
Boys Basketball championship on March 15.

The Iron Mountain-Kingsford
Community Federal Credit Union recently provided the
Breitung Township School District with 100 Academic Achiever
t-shirts for students in grades K-12. The logo was designed
by senior Heather Zollner.

for capturing the 285 lb weight class title at the 2008
Mariucci Wrestling Invitational. This is Chris's second
Mariucci title winning his first in 2006.

Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Month
Congratulations to Dan
Sjoquist and Kelsey Roberts for being selected the November
Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Month. As a setter and
all-around player, Kelsey helped lead the volleyball team to
a Regional Final. As quarterback and defensive back, Dan led
the football team to a semifinal appearance before bowing to
eventual champion Marine City.

Region selections for volleyball. A

split into 2 regions, these awards are for Region 2
which spans from Marquette to Menominee and everything
East.

Regional Football Champions
Congratulations to the KHS varsity
football team on their Regional title on Saturday,
November 10th. The team defeated Coopersville 21-14 and
now advance to the semifinals on Saturday, November 17th
at 1:00 CST in Gaylord. Go Flivvers!

Regional Volleyball Runners-up
Congratulations to the KHS volleyball
team on their successful volleyball season and
runners-up finish at the Class B Regional on Friday,
November 9th. The girls beat Standish-Sterling (3-0) in
the semifinal and lost to Cadillac (3-0) in the finals.
The girls finished with a 25-11 record. Great season
girls!

GNC Volleyball Player of the Year
Congratulations to Kelsey
Roberts for being chosen the 2007 player of the year for the
Great Northern Conference volleyball season. This honor was
voted on by all the conference coaches. Congratulations also
go out to Jessica Grailer (first team), Jordan Zeni (second
team), Molly Wiltzius (honorable mention) and Coach Steve
Andrews (coach of the year).

Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Month
Congratulations to Josh Droese
and Abby Tresedder for being selected the August-September
Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Month. Abby successfully
defended her UP No 1 Singles title and was undefeated. Josh
has helped lead the Flivvers to the playoffs and a
runners-up finish in the GNC.

GNC Lineman of the Year / All UP Dream
Team
Congratulations to Paul Santi
for being named the 2007 GNC Lineman of the Year. Paul
played Guard and Defensive Lineman for the GNC Runners-up
Flivvers this past season. Congratulations also go out to
Paul's teammates who were named to the All-GNC Team for the
2007 football season. Paul was also selected to the All UP
Dream Team for the 2007 football season.

Band Honor
Chris Maki has been awarded
the opportunity to perform at the Wisconsin State Conference
on Oct 26. Chris is a senior member of the Jazz Band,
Marching Band and Concert Band and has participated in solo
and ensemble festival with the highest ratings possible
since 8th grade. He currently works with the 8th grade band
as a volunteer student director.

Tresedder for being selected as the UP Division 1 Player of
The Year for the second year in a row.
