Jaelyn Jennings Scholarship

Jaelyn was a positive and active student at KHS.  She excelled in her studies and athletic activities, and loved to work with and help others.   She was an avid sports fan, as a participant and spectator.   She participated in basketball for 4 years, track for 4 years, and tennis for 3 years, and was a great Flivver fan.  Jaelyn was a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered her time with various organizations.  She lived her high school years to their fullest, always enjoying time with friends, classmates, teammates, coaches, and teachers.

Since she was a young girl, it was Jaelyn’s dream to attend the University of Michigan, and with much determination during her illness, she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2019.  Throughout her years at U of M, she truly enjoyed the “Michigan Experience” in every sense, especially following her beloved Michigan Wolverines, cheering them on in the Big House, Crisler Center, and Yost Arena.  Jae was a proud and committed 4-year participant and chairperson with Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan, a non-profit student organization dedicated to supporting children with disabilities and illnesses, and their families, by raising funds and generating awareness for pediatric therapies.  She was passionate about the DMUM organization & was driven by their mission “For the Kids!”  Jaelyn’s desire was to pursue a career in medicine following her graduation from Michigan, but was unable to realize her dream due to her illness.

Applicants for the scholarship must be accepted for admission and attend the University of Michigan.  Students must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for 4 years. Preference will be given to applicants who also have participated in KHS extra-curricular activities.

The first Jaelyn Jennings Memorial Scholarship is valued at $4,000; students will receive $1,000 per year for 4 years while attending the University of Michigan. The first scholarship will be awarded this spring to one Kingsford High School graduate in the Class of 2022. Following this inaugural year, the Jennings family will continue to award the $4,000 scholarship to a student of their respective graduating class.

The Board of Education of Breitung Township Schools and the administration of Kingsford High School are pleased to accept the opportunity to coordinate such a meaningful scholarship for the Jennings family and the graduates of Kingsford High School.  Individuals interested in donating to the Jaelyn Jennings Memorial Scholarship can contact Jamie Lockhart, Scholarship Coordinator/KHS, or David Lindbeck, Principal, at 431 Hamilton Ave. Kingsford, MI 49802, calling 779-2670, ext.5, or by emailing jlockhart@kingsford.org for more information.
