2014 Veteran's Day Program
Breitung Township Schools will be presenting their annual Veteran's Day program honoring the area's military veterans and auxiliary members at the Kingsford High School/Middle School complex on Tuesday November 11, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.
The program will begin with the presentation of Colors by the Kingsford American Legion Carpenter Clash Post #363 and the sons of the American Legion Color Guard. The National Anthem will be provided by the Kingsford High School music department. Ms Rachel Cevigney, President of the Kingsford High School student council will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Numerous musical selections will be provided during the program by the Kingsford High School Vocal department under the direction of Crystal Hogan and Instrumental Department under the direction of Ben Sherk. The welcome will be provided by Mr. David Holmes, Principal of Kinsford Middle School and the closing by Mr.Lyle Smithson, Principal of Kingsford High School.
This years Veteran's Day speaker will be Mr. Mike Cross. Mr. Cross is a native of Norway Michigan. Mr. Cross enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1986. He served in active duty in the army from 1986-1989. He did his basic training in Fort Knox Kentucky. He While serving in active duty Mr. Cross was stationed in both Fort Lee Virginia and Fort Drum New York. After his honorable discharge from active duty Mr. Cross served in the National Guard from 1989-1994. In 1993 Mr.Cross received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Michigan University in Secondary Education. In 1997 he received his Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration. He taught in Rogers City High School from 1994-1995. Since 1995 Mr. Cross has been a teacher and coach with the Breitung Township School district. Mike Cross and his wife Tina are the proud parents of three children Michael, Samantha and Elizabeth.
The 2014 Veteran's day program will conclude with the playing of the taps by the Kingsford High School Instrumental Department. A social will be held in the Kingsford Middle School Cafeteria following the program. The community is invited to attend the social which will honor our area's military and auxiliary veterans.
Flivver Field Fence Improvement Project
The Kingsford Athletic department with the assistance of the KHS Athletic Booster Club and outside donations will be breaking ground on a fence improvement project on Flivver Field along Hamilton Avenue.
